[ If he was speaking, it would be in the most monotone, emotionless tone possible, but for better or worse, text isn't all that great for conveying sarcasm. ]
so, you're finally gonna be an adult huh? congrats
DIRECTED TO: RAGNA THE BLOODEDGE LISTED CRIME: DESTROYING THE WORLD
The Council has selected you for sentencing to atone for the above listed crimes. You are directed to turn yourself in within two (2) hours of receiving this message, or you will be forcibly detained. You are to meet the Council's representative outside of City Hall in order to respond to this summons.
[ ... Seriously? He's being ordered to show up or else by some jackass named "Jerry"? This is beyond ridiculous. It's very tempting to tell him to piss off and save his thinly veiled threats for someone who'd be impressed by them, but he figures he'd be wasting his breath.
Besides, his annoyance with the wording of the message aside, this actually piques his interest. He'd been waiting for some explanation on the whole sentencing bullshit ever since he got here, and it looks like this might be a chance to finally find out more about whatever the hell is going on here. So with the pros outweighing the cons, Ragna is willing to swallow his pride and act like an adult for once. ]
as far as invitations go, this one kinda sucks, dipshit but sure, I'll be there
[ Well. "Adult" by his standards.
When the two hours limit is up, Jerry will find Ragna standing in front of the City Hall, leaning on its wall with his arms crossed on his chest. ]
( now what kind of partner would she be if she didn't share something that she mysteriously received from her tablet? a terrible one. and besides, their partnership is more than just protecting one another in her eyes. he's also family. so anyway. after two minutes of waiting for something to be loaded to his tablet, ragna will receive an audio clip that isn't jinx speaking but a couple of people. )
Person a: Duplicity? That's it? There's no way that that girl hasn't done other things. Person b: Yeah, I think that crime isn't harsh enough. Some of them aren't harsh enough at all! Who--[STATIC NOISES] Person a: Maybe we can [MORE STATIC NOISES]. Person c: That'd be so much more interesting!!
( and the recording stops there. )
text; (during the event aftermath discussion post)
[ Having seen Ragna's comments on the discussion about what to do in the aftermath of everything that happened, Ange has been thinking about them for a bit.. And it's not like she fully disagrees with what he's saying, so she decides to not comment on that.
Instead she shoots him a message just meant for him. No one else has to see this shit, okay. It'd be way too embarrassing for both of them. ]
[ Well, his sarcasm is the same as usual, so clearly he's doing just fine. He kind of wants to ask what the hell made her ask that, but... well, he already knows the answer, doesn't he? As much as he doesn't like the idea of the girl worrying for his well-being for... a bunch of reasons, the best he can do for now is just shrug it off.
... He should probably tell her to stop caring so much at some point but... man, after that one time she told him about her family, it would feel really awkward to do so. Another time, then! ]
looks like neither of us ended up as fish food, so we're both doing better than some
[ The video opens to Mitama, though just like in her recent post, she's wearing her "disguise". She's here on an important business, after all. ]
Ho, ho, ho! Thank you for joining our Secret Santa event~ It's time to find out what ─ or rather who ─ your assignment as Santa's Little Helper for this year is! Drumroll, please...
[ She makes a pause for a dramatic effect, her hand slipping into a Santa hat she's holding and pulling out a small piece of paper with a name on it. ]
It's none other than... Dazai Osamu, the host of Aldrip's most popular (and only) radio show!
Remember, you should present your assignee with a gift of your choice until December 25th! Good luck, and remember: your main task is to spread joy, happiness and the spirit of Christmas cheer!
[On the evening of December 24th, Ragna will find a nicely wrapped package on his doorstep. Inside is a beautifully designed hunting knife. There's an note attached that simply says "Happy Holidays", with no identifier as to who left the package.]
[ Oh wait, this must be this whole "secret santa" crap. Huh. It hasn't even occurred to him that he'd be getting something in return, too. That's... nice? Still vaguely threatening, though. Ah well, the knife can be useful for when he's annoyed and wants to stab someone (or, what is becoming increasingly more likely with each day, himself), so that's not bad. ]
if u hate me or dont want to be with me anymore, just SAY IT! u dont need to string me along like this! or at least TELL ME what i did wrong! u know im new at all of this stupid couple junk. but whatever, i just DONT care anymore. i dont care about u. u can rot and die for all i care!! i never want to see u again. Every fiber of his being is screaming for him to just ignore the message and not get involved in whatever mess happened there, but if he does that it might only make the matters worse, so... he'll clarify the obvious, first. ]
I think you're barking up the wrong tree, Smurfette
( to help you with ragna's player plot next month, and to give him more of a reason to be angry -- he will receive some screenshots of her conversation with jerry so far. )
[ Everything slowly had started to feel less and less real - especially when she started rapidly picking up more and more memories near the end there, desperate to learn what they meant. But even though the pieces of her life that started to fill back in, there was one thing that Ange had been reluctant to let go of, clinging onto to the very end: the fact that Ragna was her brother. Even as she gained memories of a different family, Ange wanted to believe at least that part was fake. That her brother was right here with her.
But as she wakes up this morning.. She knows that's a lie too. It's like her mind clearly snaps into place all at once. No longer a patchwork of fake and real memories, but one clear and concise view of herself and her life.
A life that never involved the person she thought had been taking care of her for years and years.
Waking up in the same room as she went to sleep in last night feels like a cruel joke on top of it all. Especially when Ange knows who she'll see when she starts moving through the apartment after quickly getting dressed first. ]
Hey, big bro! I'm heading off on a trip, and it'll take me a couple of weeks to make it there and back. Thought I should let ya know before you go all crazy, and blow things up while I'm gone.
But I have my phone, so you can call and write me anytime. Be on your best behavior, you wild dragon, you! Love ya!
[ On one hand, Ragna is grateful to have received some sort of early notice on this ─ knowing Jinx, she may have very well wandered off on her own without letting anyone know and that would drive him up the wall. On the other, he's left with more questions than answers; what trip? Where? Why? With whom?
... But it's her dad's job to be an overbearing parent, and he's no doubt asked all of those and more already. Should he be worried? That feels like her sister's duty, especially if she sprang it on her just as suddenly as she did on him. So that leaves him with... ]
Bring me a souvenir.
[ He's settles for the "Support" role, apparently. Not that it will stop him from worrying about her well-being, but for now, he'll trust her to handle herself. Besides, even if something was to happen, he figures being away from Aldrip is actually safer anyway. ]
... And if you somehow get lost and need help getting back, you know my number.
As I'm sure you've noticed, Jinx has returned back to Zaun for nearly a month. I had hope that she would return, but it appears this stay is not particularly brief.
She was close to you. Drop by the Last Drop when you're off shift and I'll see to it you have a drink.
[And by drink, he means however much is needed for Ragna to be drunk.]
[ Of course he's noticed. As soon as the Dark Hour or whatever it was called ended, Ragna's first order of business was to try and contact Jinx. He wasn't successful, but didn't think much of it ─ it's entirely possible the reception hadn't come back to the other parts of the world yet, or maybe the girl was busy with something, got distracted and dropped her phone into a river, never to be recovered. Either way, he was bound to hear from her in a couple of days, whether via a call or in person.
But days turned into weeks without any news, and on the umpteenth attempt, Ragna finally noticed her username was no longer even listed on the network.
That doesn't mean anything, he's told himself time after time, despite knowing better than that, She'll be back in no time. Delusions could only get him so far, however, and eventually a part of him begins to realize he's just trying to run away from the inevitable conclusion. He knows what it means, but he doesn't want to admit it; and why would he? He's already lost his arm, the AI... if he accepts that Jinx is gone, too, then... what does that leave him with?
The answer is, nothing.
By the time he gets a message from Silco, he's pretty much resigned himself to staying in bed for the rest of the... day? Week? He doesn't particularly care. Seeing the text feels uncomfortable, as it serves as a painful reminder of reality, but for once he can't bring himself to be mad about it. That is a man who's just lost his daughter, after all, and the offer of a drink doesn't sound half bad for a change. ]
[ ... Not a question he expected to see today. He is technically correct, however ─ with everything that's been going on, Ragna hasn't even realized it's almost that time of the year already. He recalls Christmas being an important holiday, though he'd never paid it much attention beyond making sure his siblings get their presents from "Santa". Now that Richard has brought it up, he can't help but wonder... what would Sister do if she was here...? ]
same as always open if you wanna pray or whatever if you cause trouble I'll kick you out
[It's early in the 25th morning. Most people are still sleeping and the sun is only about to send its first rays to break the darkness of the night sky. But then there is a sudden knock on a door. Huh?! Who could it be! Whenever Ragna gets to the door, be it immediately or hours late they will find a christmas wreath with white roses placed on their doorstep. There might even be snowy (or wet!) small hoof marks leading away from the present. Hm. I wonder, who indeed did deliver this?
On the wreath there is a letter that reads:]
To Ragna,
Thank you for protecting the Church from any harm and keeping it in good condition. I appreciate you allowing me to use it to participate my faith in peace. Please use the money donations for any upcoming repairs that the building might need in future. There will be a feast held at the Inn’s tavern for the next 12 days and I welcome you to enjoy it for free. There will be warm food, treats and homemade mead and wine at your disposal.
Merry Christmas.
Signed, Richard Plantagenet, The Duke of Gloucester.
[And! Just as promised, once the decorations for the church are ready the result wont be anything over the top or opulent. There is a path of candles leading from the door to next to the altar where there is a giant, decorated tree. Other than that there are a few Christmas wreaths on the walls along with some of the electric lights. Outside there's a few snow sculptures from snowmen to different animals.
These decorations will be taken down by the 5th of January, unless Ragna decides to get rid of them himself first.]
ooc: There will be no ic mingle log for the feast. But feel free to either handwave or thread it out!]
[ Abigail had been looking for her cats again, wandering around all of Aldrip until she came upon a grassy hill. When she saw the rooftop of a familiar shape, she began to walk a bit faster. Falling into a full run when she realized she saw - ]
A CHURCH!!
[ Excited and absolutely happy, Abigail quickly makes her way down the road and turns sharply towards the boardwalk. Making sure she doesn't step on any grass along the way! Eventually, she scampers up the steps and eagerly moves to open the door. Trying to squeeze herself inside. To her, Churches were always open, so she hadn't given much thought to knocking. However, when she goes inside, she immediately tries to say - ]
[ To his credit, Ragna leaves the church's door open to visitors most of the time ─ not because he's so empathetic to the needs of religious people of Aldrip, but rather because he figures this is what Sister would have wanted. So far, he's only had one regular visitor ─ Richard, who, for some reason, has also been insisting on leaving him money to help with the church's upkeep. Ragna has been hesitant to use it, but recently he finally relented and commissioned a simple, wooden cross to fit in with the admittedly modest interior.
On this particular morning, Ragna is busy cleaning the chapel ─ a task made somewhat difficult by the fact he's currently missing his right arm, and his right eye isn't working. It's not the worst thing in the world, and he's (for better or worse) somewhat used to this, but it makes the chores drag for longer than it should be necessary. He's just about to take a break when he feels a familiar kind of shiver traveling down his spine; one that warns him about approaching danger. The man spins around, ready to face his opponent─
Only to find a young, unfamiliar girl entering the chapel. ]
... Hey. [ He greets the newcomer awkwardly, still somewhat confused by his senses failing him. Maybe the lack of his grimoire is really starting to mess with his head more than he'd imagined it would... ] It's, uh, just me here.
[You wake up in a courtroom. You’re not really sure how you got here, just that you’re here. There’s Jerry, sitting at the judges box. For some he might be new, and others he might be familiar or semi-familiar. He scrutinizes you, and then motions to the jury box. There’s a plaque that’s sitting on the outside that says “Council”, but there’s no one sitting there. Everything looks clean and maintained, but there’s no one in the courtroom but you and Jerry.
Weird.]
You are charged with releasing the Black Beast. In order to repent and further your rehabilitation, you have been tasked to show remorse for your crime by considering why you have the tendency to self-sacrifice for others. You do not care for yourself, which also harms the ones around you. Why? Reflect on this. If there is no action taken, there will be consequences.
[Jerry blinks down at you, fingers threading together as he looks down from the judges’ box.]
How do you plead?
[ooc: you have until May 9th to submit your Sentencing HERE Even if your character doesn’t proceed with the Sentencing, you must comment on the NPC inbox for your penalty.
Also, there are effects for ignoring this Sentencing. The longer Ragna takes to do his Sentencing, the more he may see the shadows of the Black Beast coming out of his regained arm. He may even think that they’re going to be re-released into Aldrip in his paranoia of it all. If you have any questions about Sentencing, please let us know!
Jerry is interactive at this point, but we wanted to make sure you got your information in hand if you'd like to start plotting for your Sentencing!]
[ Well, that's new. Ragna did expect a sentencing coming his way, all things considered, but this is the first time he finds himself teleported into the courthouse without prior summon. Probably a smart move, all things considered, since the poor old Jerry must have had trouble dragging everyone in here. This makes things more efficient. ]
How about starting with a "Hello" first? It's been a while. Or is it "Nice to meet you"? I don't think I've met this version of you before.
[ He says in his typical sarcastic tone, shrugging his shoulders flippantly. Given how Phenomenon Intervention worked back in his world, he wouldn't be surprised if this Jerry was a different person than the one he'd met before, but he still seems to be a stuck-up asshole either way. ]
Guilty as charged. [ He has no issue admitting as much, at least. ] ... Not sure why you seem to think that my trying to fix what I broke is the problem, though.
[ Sometime after this whole exchange, Emet-Selch makes his way out to the northeastern edge of town, as instructed. On foot, unfortunately, since his ability for teleportation isn't quite what it once was.
Mayhap after he knows the city better.
In any case, here he is! Tall and berobed and looking just like the picture that was slapped onto the network without his say so. ]
[ The area Ragna has picked for the meeting has, miraculously, avoided being leveled during the fights back in March, and the damage it did sustain at the time has mostly been cleaned up and fixed since then. Still, there aren't many people around ─ Ragna suspects most of the other Chosen will be hanging out around the inn, considering the recent arrivals, which leaves him with ample space to deal with Emet-Selch. Truth to be told, he's still hoping the man was bluffing about his abilities, and nothing will come of this arrangement... but he's about to find out.
Recognizing the person his waiting for off the profile from earlier, Ragna pushes himself off the wall he was leaning against and approaches the other man with all the excitement and enthusiasm of a funeral procession. ]

SENTENCING

Mayhap after he knows the city better.
In any case, here he is! Tall and berobed and looking just like the picture that was slapped onto the network without his say so. ]

Recognizing the person his waiting for off the profile from earlier, Ragna pushes himself off the wall he was leaning against and approaches the other man with all the excitement and enthusiasm of a funeral procession. ]
Yo, Observer. Over here.
